Statement of IFSW Europe e.V. in Support of Ukrainian People Struggle for Better Future

Statement of IFSW Europe e.V. in Support of Ukrainian People Struggle for Better Future

On behalf of IFSW, Europe e.V. we want to express our support to Ukrainian people’s struggle for better future.

The key role of social workers is to support people who, for whatever reason, are not able to fulfill their needs and to participate fully in social life and make their decisions with free choices. Human rights, social justice, freedom and democracy are conceived social workers as vital values and standards. Therefore, we recognize right to freedom of expression and association of them who, during this struggle, gather in the streets of Ukraine.

We convey our grave concern over the loss of life, injury and distress that Ukrainian citizens are currently experiencing and the impact the current situation is having on the well-being of those who were already disadvantaged or facing hardship.  We call upon all sides involved in today’s political discussions to avoid violence. We express our belief in the right of all human beings to free expression. However whilst we support peaceful demonstration of discontent, we reject violence of any kind.  We support the rule of law but not the use of excessive force by the state to impose public order.

We are hopeful of Ukrainian’s ability to go beyond the conflict and find solutions beneficial to all of the Ukraine’s citizens in free choice and free elections.
