WORLD SOCIAL WORK DAY 2010 - BULGARIA PRESS RELEASE









. Totyu Mladenov, the Social Assistance Agency Executive Director Mr. Ivailo Ivanov, the President of the Bulgarian Association of Social Workers Mr. Valyo Hristov, the President of the International Federation of Social Workers Mr. David Jones.

Representatives of the Social Assistance Agency, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Science, the Bulgarian Red Cross, consumer organizations, social service providers and universities started a process of discussion on the extremely important topic of regulation of the social work profession as an important step towards raising social workers’ professionalism and the quality of social services offered.

At the meeting experience from Bulgaria and overseas was shared, as well as ideas about adopting basic standards for those who practice social work, and key skills and competences. The various aspects of building up future partnerships were discussed with view to the drawing up of a plan and strategy for regulation of the social work profession in our country.PRESS RELEASE

On 16 March for a third year in a row the community of social workers everywhere in the world marked the World Social Work Day. For a third year in a row social workers in Bulgaria celebrated this day too.

On 15 March 2010 at 10 am in Hall 5 on 5th floor of the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy the Bulgarian Association of Social Workers in partnership with Social Assistance Agency organized an official meeting on the topic: “Social Work – Regulated Profession.”
