EXECUTIVE MEETING IN BERLIN

The Executive Committee met in Berlin at the Offices of Deutscher Berufsverband fur Sozialarbeit e.V (DBSH) from 12 to 14 February 2010.

Sybille Kraus from DBSH, the German Association of Social Workers, welcomed the Executive Committee to Berlin. She said it is a great honour for DBSH that the official seat of IFSW Europe e.V. is now in Berlin.

All members from the Executive were present: Nicolai Paulsen (President), Anthea Agius, Véronique Barré, Ian Johnston, Cristina Martins, Barbara Molderings, and Siobhan Maclean (Honorary Secretary).

The meeting was focus on the preparation of next Delegates Meeting in Malta from 14 to 16 May 2010. A different way for the agenda to be organised was discussed. It was agreed that the format of the Delegates Meeting would be different this year focusing on more policy content.

The executive members considered different options for the organisation of the DM, topics and themes in a “brain storm”:
Human Rights
Social Policy (European Year on Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion, etc.)
Professional Development (working conditions, definition and standards)
Organisational Development (connecting members project, obtaining funding and networking, links with other organisations, etc.)

This led us also to our aim to present and revise the work programme in a “revolutionary” way, to develop the meeting more interactively, developing into open group work.

The IFSW Europe Regional Project and the seminars were positively evaluated and the framework of standards (in summary booklet form) will be ready for the Delegates Meeting.

New Appointments for the Permanent Committee on EU Issues were agreed: Marjut Kosonen from UK and Ana Isabel Lima Fernandez from Spain.
On Valentine's Day Nicolai offered to women of the executive a cookie's heart that all enjoyed eating while drinking coffee prepared by Ian.

After the meeting was produced the first IFSW Europe's podcast for the celebration of the World Social Work Day.

Next executive meeting will be in Malta prior to the Delegates Meeting, from 13 to 14 February 2010.

We thank DBSH and specially Barbara Molderings for hosting the Executive Committee so well.

Like Ampelmann, IFSW European Executive Committee Keep on walking...
